Cloudy tap water: what to check
White or cloudy water is often caused by tiny air bubbles. A visual check can help describe the problem, but it is not a laboratory test.
Watch a clear glass
Fill a clear glass from the cold kitchen tap and watch it settle. Clearing from the bottom upwards is consistent with trapped air. DWI says this can follow a burst or work on nearby mains.
When to contact the supplier
Contact your water company if the cloudiness does not clear, lasts longer than 24 hours, or comes with an unusual taste or smell. Note when it started and whether other taps are affected. Follow any current supplier instructions.
Why an annual report cannot diagnose it
An annual supply-area report summarises earlier samples. It cannot identify the cause of a change at your tap today. Use the supplier’s current help service for that investigation.
